Pair of Red-shouldered Hawks

This past March, it was shortly after sunrise when I spotted this pair of Red-shouldered Hawks perched alongside the road.

Always a treat to capture a pair together, I quickly pulled over and walked back.

The male was focused on the marsh below them, and suddenly dove.Β  I stayed with the female to see what she would do.Β  She remained motionless, except for just a downward tilt of her head to watch her mate in action.

  1. I often see red-shouldered hawks on telephone lines, so how excellent that this pair were together on this scenic branch. Both photos are terrific, Donna.

    • Thank you, Eliza! I’ve always been more accustomed to seeing the red-tail as well, but while in Florida, red-shoulders were everywhere. I really enjoyed seeing them in remote areas, getting chances with photo ops.

  2. Wow, very special! Absolutely gorgeous, and the sky – not one cloud – amazing. It’s rare enough to see a pair of any hawks together, let alone Red-Shouldered Hawks. Made my day. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Lisa! I too know it’s rare to see/capture a pair together. I got lucky!! I was very glad I pulled over on the highway and walked back in hopes to get that photo. 😊
