Five On The Wing – #19

I’ve been waiting on this ‘bonus themed’ post for my series of five bird species in flight for some time and am going to cheat by giving two photos of one bird species to complete it.Β  😲  I know, tsk tsk!

It’s been weeks, and I’ve not scored that fifth bird species.Β  🀨

You know, once this posts, I’ll get that fifth species and could have finished the post without cheating, right?Β  πŸ˜‚

These birds in flight have the added theme, carrying food!

  1. Fantastic series! And yes, I’ll bet as soon as you posted this a fifth species flew right across your yard! My favorite is the first one. It’s amazing how beautiful blue jays are – the colors and pattern are incredible. And yet we take them almost for granted, as opposed to a bald eagle which, when you think about it, isn’t nearly as colorful or varied in color or pattern.

    • Thank you, Susan! πŸ˜‰ Blue Jays are stunning, I’m not quite sure how many different shades of blue they shine! I’m thinking if they weren’t so darn loud at times, people would appreciate them more. They are loud! πŸ˜‚

  2. Neat series, Donna! I’ve noticed several species caching seeds from our bird feeders, mostly titmice and chickadees, which they do more this time of year than in winter. It’s bad enough that squirrels bury acorns in the garden, but bluejays do, too!

  3. Lovely BiFs Donna, Very aware of the skill it takes to get those fast moving birds crisp. You also got the gular pouch in utilization – very nice.

    • Indeed they are! I know one tree the Blue Jays packed with seeds, day after day, taking acorns to it and then leaving for another. There will be a continuous buffet for a while in that tree in the cold days coming!

  4. These are amazing shots, Donna! (I don’t mind that you cheated. πŸ˜‰ ) It looks like the first Blue Jay is carrying a fortune cookie. Its feathers are so pretty.

    • Thank you, Barbara! I thought a fortune cookie too! lol Another commenter said my Osprey header with the fish counted so I really didn’t cheat. I’ll take it! πŸ˜‚

  5. I can’t help but wonder if it can be considered “cheating” if you’re the one making up the rules? πŸ˜‰
    Lovely captures, my friend.
