Singing Carolina Chickadee

This adorable Carolina Chickadee is happily singing his little heart out on a branch above my empty bluebird nest box he had just investigated both inside and out. He was telling his gal it looked good to him for a home!

He and his gal did not get a chance at the nest box though; I have a pair of Eastern Bluebirds keeping their eye on it.

Although I adore my chickadees, I’m rooting for another season with bluebirds!

  1. Lovely set of photos. Songbirds often sing to different parts of their “stage” as you show. If one didn’t know that before, one would guess from this that they are trying to attract attention

    • Thank you, IJ! Being able to spend time almost every day watching my backyard, it’s a joy to really learn and know my birds and their stages, it’s been a wonderful learning experience for me.

    • Thank you, Belinda! I literally chatter with them when I fill the feeders, they are so wonderful! I’m below the chickadee line change for the black-capped, so it would be a rare sighting for me!

  2. I love Chickadees. We have a few that visit our yard, but never in the numbers of the finches and sparrows. They are so pert and lively, and I love their fancy coloring.

    • They are indeed quite entertaining, I enjoy them very much too! I sing their chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee song while filling the feeders and they come flying in and sing back at me. They must wonder about this huge lady-bird off key! LOL

  3. I think Chickadees are the cutest little birds and yours brightens things up with his song here. Because I didn’t get to Council Point Park for weeks on end this Winter, I didn’t get to spoil my Chickadees there. They usually gather at a certain place for chipped peanuts and sunflower seeds.
