Spring Birds and Blooms
It was the first of week of April when we began seeing this year’s first Spring peeks of tree buds and blooms.
Today it’s as if Mother Nature snapped her fingers *click* and the trees are all leafed up!
During the last three weeks, I tried to capture some nice compositions of birds surrounded by the tree buds or blooms in my backyard.
Here’s the photos I liked the most. They are in date order to see the changes of the trees as well.

Blue Jay

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Yellow-rumped Warbler

White-throated Sparrow

Northern Cardinal

Tufted Titmouse

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (arrived two weeks ago, staying until fall)

Carolina Chickadee

White-eyed Vireo (arrived three days ago, staying until fall)

Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Now the challenges of all those leaves that are getting bigger and bigger by the day, hiding the birds! 😉

Delightful photos
Thank you, Sheree!
Beautiful! I would love to see a blue jay someday. We have only scrub jays and Steller’s jays here
Such pretty spring time photos, Donna!
Thank you, Belinda! Spring finally made it here!
It seems like the leaves are unfolding more quickly every year. Or am I just getting older?
I’m feeling the same way! 🙂
Truly the delights of spring! Great photos, Donna. 👍🏼
Thank you, Eliza!
It is looking more and more like spring. Yippee! 😁
So happy here, yippee!! 🤗😊
Ah, those leaves! They make it hard to spot some birds at times. Beautiful shots!
Thank you, Egidio! 😉
Very collection; I particularly like the Gnatcatcher in flight. Good to see all of these leaves and bloom. Not quite blooming or leafing yet in Montreal but it is coming soon. It is true that we like the trees with leaves but it has a major drawback for bird photographers…(Suzanne)
Thank you, Suzanne! My goodness, it feels like it leafed up in minutes, lol. I’m sending Spring vibes up to Montreal for you!
Leaves hide bridges too which is a downside of spring and summer.
Dang those gorgeous leaves! 😉
Brilliant photos, Donna 👌👌👌
Thank you, Michael!
You’re welcome, Donna.
The birds and their backgrounds are all beautiful Donna! I read this is the biggest week for Spring bird migration across the U.S., so better have your camera and binoculars ready!
Thank you, Linda! I’m watching Birdcast for our surges, OMGosh the mid-west is in for the big ones now! We should see a surge next week for the Chesapeake fly-way. I was out this morning and saw my first Black-and-white Warbler, and the Blue Grosbeak, Orchard Oriole and Indigo Buntings started arriving in last couple days. They are coming! 📷🤗👍😊📷
Yes, our biggest surge was April 21st … 1.5 million birds in Michigan. I hope your weather cooperates to get out with your camera, binoculars and … Jaxon!
All those big surges right up the middle of the states, heading right for you, wow! We don’t get those huge surges, but we had a big surge last night and this morning it is super windy, ugh.
We were to have a surge either Sunday or Monday – I saw that info on our local Wild Birds Unlimited, but we, too, have had this horrible gusty wind now for three days in a row. Ugh indeed!
Another push last night and windy & showers today, ugh ugh!! 🥴 We have another real big push Friday night, I am going on a bird club trip Sat. 6:45-11:00am into a foresty swamp area, we’re going to go find those migratory warblers and vireos!
The weather is pretty crazy these days and we’ve had some very chilly overnights and freezing temps, so I hope our hummingbirds have a safe place to hang out and stay warm. Good luck on your bird club trip Donna – the early bird gets the worm, or in this case the warblers and vireos!
I love all of them, especially the male Cardinal❤️
Thank you!
Your Blue Jay is stunning in the light among the blossoms. Such a lovely time is Spring Donna, and your birds are loving it. The flight shot of the Gnatcatcher is excellent also, as are you other small birds. The Chickadee has an interesting face, well caught also. A lovely showcase all round my friend.
Thank you, Ashley! Spring has sprung, and the birds are singing so joyfully. I knew you would love the Blue Jay!😊
That blue-grey Gnatcatcher had wings down like the leaves. A lovely set of birds in early spring leaves.
Thank you, Sandy!
Cute!!!
Thank you!
My favorite is the fabulous photo of the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! Wednesday late afternoon I saw three first time new birds for me. A pair together of Hooded Oriole, a Bullock’s Oriole male, and a Summer Tanager male all migrating. Highly unusual and extremely thrilling!
What exciting news and congratulations on your new lifers! Those are three gorgeous bird species and all in one day, magical! 🤗💃😊
Okay, I saw two consecutive photos labeled Yellow-rumped Warbler and I saw yellow on the wings, but I did not have a view of a rump. The third photo had an excellent view of a rump, but I saw no yellow. What gives? 🙂
Hehehehe, they like to flash their yellow when they want too! Usually getting the ‘butter butt’ shot is the hardest. 😉
Such a lovely pic!
Thank you very much, Ilze!
