White Pelicans Landing

I couldn’t believe what I saw coming towards me while birding at the Riverfront Park.

Here’s a pair of American White Pelicans coming in for a landing on one of the ponds.  They have an incredible wingspan of 8 to 9 1/2 feet!

I later talked to a park personnel and two locals at the pond, all three said this was the first they’d seen White Pelicans here.  Talk about my right place, right time moment!

I’ll share a few more of them in some other posts.  🙂

    • Thank you, Hien! What’s next? A Roseate Spoonbill is presently visiting Bombay Hook NWR, showing up in the Shearness Pool. How cool is that!!!!! 🙂 Delaware Birding facebook page is sharing photos.

  1. Beautiful shot! I love these Pelicans! Which reminds me I haven’t seen any close in quite a while – they are usually sitting way, way, way far away. I need to get out more. 🙂
