Fox Sparrow

Fox Sparrows winter over the eastern half and southwestern portions of the United States, but finding them isn’t so easy with their hiding skills.

Having seen a Fox Sparrow only a few times (and poorly photographed once), I was truly excited when I heard one chirping in the marsh reeds while recently birding Claiborne Landing just a few miles from me.

I was birding from my car and then saw it fly across the road from one side of the marsh to the other side. Birds were moving around and it followed, going back to my driver’s side. “Thank you”, I said!

I made some “phish phish phish” sounds and out *popped* my beautiful Fox Sparrow for just a few seconds!

I said “thank you thank you” again as I pulled away,
‘cuz this beautiful Fox Sparrow made my day!
