Wading Birds #5 – Great Blue Heron

Soon, our herons and egrets will be returning from migration.  As I await their arrival, I’ll share a few more winter photos of our Great Blue Heron who is a year-round resident……followed by a cute cartoon!

  1. Thanks for the laugh and great photos of your year round resident, Just saw the first herons starting their nesting at the closest rookery to our house. 😉

  2. Donna, your Great Blue Heron photos are stunning. The sharpness is amazing. I see them here in our backyard pond. They are such beautiful birds.

  3. Loved it all – the grumpy, beautiful birds and the funny little cartoon story. Cheered me up!

    Gwen.

  4. Your resident Great Blue Heron is very blue and I like how regal it looks. I marvel how streamlined they look in flight. That is a cute carton Donna – ha, ha … it soon will be nesting season. 🙂

  5. Great Great Blue Heron photographs! We’re fattening up warblers as we speak and they are packing their little suitcases and looking at GoogleMaps to find out where the “Eastern Shore” is located.

That swoon ‘toon is exactly the reaction I get when I bring Gini a stick. (As long as it’s dripping with milk chocolate coated vanilla ice cream!)

    • Thank you, Wally! I am already eager in anticipation for the warblers to speed through our region, making their way home. I hope many stop for feeding in my backyard!

Loved your swoon comment, you two are my favorite love birds!

  6. “Here’s a stick!” The language of love. ♡ I love the third picture, a bit of wind, the way the breeding plumage is reflected in and similar in shape to the grasses. Very artistic shot.
