Snooze Time
Snooze (sno͞oz/) – To take a short, light nap, typically during the daytime hours. Used to rest up before an activity.
Also – doze, sleep, rest, siesta, power nap, catnap, forty winks, drop off, snatch forty winks, get some shut-eye, put one’s head down, catch some ZZZZs.
Here’s a Double-crested Cormorant squeezing in an afternoon snooze while soaking up some warm sunny rays.
I can so relate…..although I’d much prefer a lounge chair to a piling.
Interesting that they can do that.
It is, Terry, but we know it sure looks uncomfortable, on one leg no less! 🙂
Great that you caught him/her resting on just the one leg, Donna.
Amazing that stance of a lot of birds, but looks so uncomfortable, doesn’t it, Jet?! 🙂
Donna it is interesting how many birds sleep in this fashion with head turned and buried in wing feathers covering the nostril.
That is interesting, Ashley, I hadn’t thought of that. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
That’s a lovely napper (is that a real word?)! This is the way many birds catch some ZZZ. I can relate, too, but my neck is far too stiff for this comfortable position 🙂
So glad we don’t have to stand to sleep, lol. Thanks Helen! 🙂
That’s the way I feel every time I sit in a sofa to watch the news on TV. The difference is I don’t stick my schnoz under my arm for a snooze… Thank you Donna! 🙂
Glad you have a more natural laid back style, HJ! 🙂
It’s hard to get a photo of a bird sleeping, they seem more alert when they’re sleeping than awake.
Sometimes we see that one eye peaking, don’t we?! 🙂
What a great find! I loved the one foot. Hope it was a good nap. Reminds me of the warm sunny days ahead.
I cannot stand on one foot for long, let alone sleep while doing it, lol. I hope the warm sunny days have arrived for you Jane!
I love the light you captured in its wings and feathers Donna! They are beautiful!
Thanks Deborah, I have had a lot of fun with so many poses and stances of the Cormorants. They were more docile around the fishing pier and inlet I visited often making it so easy, lucky me!
It’s a wonder they don’t get a kinked neck with those contortions. I’d go for the lounge chair, too. Great capture of the napper!
I feel a kink in my neck just looking at him, lol. Lounge chair comfort is key! 🙂
I wish that I could catch a nap in that casual way. Great picture.
Would be pretty amazing, huh?!
Very nice! They are fun birds to photograph!
Thanks Reed, I had a lot of fun photographing the cormorants, they can give some pretty neat poses; and when you can get that beautiful turquoise eye, WOW!
Beautiful capture! I love the details in the feathers and the blue background!
Thank you very much!!
Beautifully captured!
Thank you very much!!
I love how graceful it looks with its head tucked in a twist and one foot off the piling. I definitely could not fall asleep in that position (or look as charming trying it)!
I agree on the gracefulness, it does look quite content on being able to peacefully rest. Me, I’d be aching all over, lol! 🙂
I hope that this snooze is a very restful and restorative one, Donna. 😊❤
Thank you, Tanja! 🙂
