Glossy Ibis
Glossy Ibises appear to look dark at a distance; but upon closer range and good light, they reveal beautiful colors of deep maroon, emerald, bronze, and violet.

While watching that last Glossy Ibis, it took flight.

The flight was more of an airborne jump crossover to another area of grasses to continue on with foraging for food, providing even more wonderful photo ops for me. 🙂

Nice to see those shimmering colours!
Thank you, Liz, the morning light was perfect to shine them! 🙂
Lovely clear photos of the Glossy Donna! We never get close enough to get good shots, as we find them very timid of humans.
Thank you, Ashley! The Glossy here are timid too, I sighted these looking through the trees lining the dirt road trail I was on. Right down a little ways after photographing the White-eyed Vireo. It was a great photo op day! 🙂
Beautiful photos!
Thank you, Sheree!
Those feet…they remind me of Herons.
How is FL?
Nice and relaxing. The weather has been outstanding and sure beats home in Maryland where winter rages on. Not missing that at all. 🙂
Did y’all catch any of that rain storm that hit us?
It mostly missed us, we only got a little rain. I saw the Carolinas were hit hard with the violent winds and torrential rains. You make out okay?
We were OK. It woke me up at 6:30am with rain smacking the windows, rain flying sideways, 60/70 mph winds, some flooded streets, overflowing river & riverwalk, debris stuck in fences… The house is on a small hill with decent drainage. The river is across the street and, as long as Ken has been here, he’s never seen it get high enough to cross the street. Neighbors across the street have had trouble with basements flooding. The last time it was that bad was Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
The Raleigh area caught it worse than we did.
Brilliant photos Donna! It is a very colourful bird for sure.😀
Thank you, Mike! The morning light was perfect to shine those colors! 🙂
Beautiful photos of the Ibis!!
Thank you, Indira! 🙂
Beautiful. You caught the gorgeous colours of the ibis brilliantly.
Thank you, Imorgana!
Great pictures Donna. I haven’t seen glossy ibises up close since a visit to Merritt Island, FL a couple of years ago. They were plentiful there. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Susan! When you go to Poplar Island this summer, look for them there. They’ve started a rookery on the island, I saw it last year. 🙂
Thanks for the heads up!
Such a beauty – love the details you captured in the first shot, esp. the beak and blue band around it.
Thank you, Eliza! The morning light is perfect at this area of the refuge along the trail. 🙂
You have captured the colours very well, but I would love to see that “live”. What a beauty!
Thank you, Jane! Oh, when the lighting hits them just right, it’s magical! 🙂
Lovely beautiful photo.s
Thank you Seraja!
Beautiful creatures and captures
Feet in flight are always ridiculously adorable!
Thank you Dawn! I love big bird feet, I’m always trying to get close-ups of them when I can. 🙂
Beautiful images Donna! Love the detail and wonderful colors of the Glossy Ibis!
Thank you, Reed!
What a wonderful bird…and some very good shots of it.
Thank you, Tom!
Wonderful shots! A somewhat goofy bird but shining in iridescent beauty! “Blessed by God… The best radiance streaming from the sun and the best the moon has to offer; Beauty pouring off the tops of the mountains and the best from the everlasting hills; The best of Earth’s exuberant gifts…” Deuteronomy 33:13-17

Thank you, William! The morning light was perfect! 🙂
Fantastic and perfectly focused captures in flight. Not an easy thing to do. 😊
It’s colouring is beautiful. Wonderfully captured!
Thank you, Belinda! I went early morning to this refuge; and the lighting along that portion of the trail is directly behind you perfectly while you face the birds. I’m heading back there tomorrow morning hopefully. Time for another bird fix. 😊 (although I have hundreds of photos to still go through 😲)
Sweet 😊
I will never tire of watching these glittering, long-legged birds. How nice to have had these photo-ops.
Thank you, Tanja, I’m thrilled I caught a glimpse of this one through the trees. 🙂
