Killdeer Reflections
Several posts back, I shared photos of a pair of Killdeer and their eggs. The last I saw them, the parents were still incubating the eggs. I was disappointed to miss seeing the hatchlings.
I did, however, get a chance to watch one of the parents one day around the water’s edge, creating some nice reflections.

Let’s hope those little hatchlings were born healthy and are growing strong each new day!
Great photos. Donna! Such an attractive bird. ❤️
Thank you, John!
Yes, very pleasing images. Love the fledglings too, cute balls of fluff.
Thank you, Jane. Those cute ‘cotton-balls on stilts’ are so adorable, I was disappointed not to get to see them run around and explore.
Nice Donna! Really like the reflections in the water!
Thank you, Reed!
Beautiful reflections Donna ! 🙂
Thank you, Ashley!
Wonderful images with the reflections, Donna. I find it astounding when they feign injury when their young are in danger.
Thank you, Jane! It is remarkable to see their technique with the feign injury, have had them do it to me a number of times over the years. Pretty smart! 🙂
As always, you have captured great images, Donna. 🙂
Thank you very much, HJ! ❤
So adorable. Love these. 😊
Thank you, Irene! 🙂
Great images of the Killdeer Reflections, Donna.
Thank you, Isabel!
What an odd name, I’m guessing they never live up to it haha
😉
I love these little birds, I had a pair nest in my driveway last year. Fun to watch. 🙂
They do show up in the oddest places at times with their love for gravel nesting. 😃
Lovely photographs, Donna!!
Thank you, Indira!!
So cute. I’m sorry you missed them. I bet they were adorable.
Thank you, Vic, it would have been a treat to see little cotton balls on short stilts running around!
How long is their breeding season? Possible to catch some more?
Killdeer breed all summer, up to three broods. In my travels this summer, it’s possible I could come across another pair and their nest! 😉
That would be cool.
Beautiful photos, Donna. You’ve outdone Monet – at least for Kildeer images. 🙂
Awwww…..thank you, Lisa! 😉
The bird looks like it’s admiring it’s own reflection 😊. Very nice!
Thank you, Belinda! 😊
I’ve seen baby Killdeers and they are so cute! Catch them next time. Lovely photos though!
Thank you! I’ve seen them in previous years too, definitely cute! 🙂
So beautiful photos, especially the reflection is amazing! I have similar bird, Common Sandpiper, nesting in my garden. She is still incubating, I hope to see the babies soon.
Thank you, Minna! Oh, I can’t wait to see your photos of the babies!
I have to walk very quitetly as the bird is so sensitive. It escapes every time I pass the nest. Poor bird 😦 I will try to get some nice pictures of the babies…
Reblogged this on Wolf's Birding and Bonsai Blog.
