Black-capped Chickadee
When I hear chickadees, they make me smile. They tell you who they are, you just have to find them in their hiding.
Chick-a-dee-dee-dee….. The more ‘dee’ notes in a chickadee’s call, the higher the threat level being called.
The chickadees I’ve photographed before have been in the southeast U.S., and I’ve always ID’d them as Carolina Chickadees who primarily range there.
Although there are range crossovers, the Black-capped Chickadee’s range is primarily higher north in the U.S. I’ve been able to see the difference in the wingbars to now be able to ID and say I’ve captured this new-to-me chickadee finally.
Welcome to my bird lifer list, #208 the Black-capped Chickadee!
Black-capped Chickadee
How lucky I was this Black-capped Chickadee came out of hiding just long enough for a click click!
Black-capped Chickadee
What a cutie! 😊
The little birds with no necks are always so adorable, aren’t they! 😊
Absolutely! 💙
Congratulations! It looks like a tough guy with that neck.
Thank you, Hans! 😉
Congratulations!
Thanks David!
Very lively bird…still you managed excellent shots, Donna!
Thank you, Indira!
Congrats on 208 Donna!
Thanks, Reed!
We have chickadees too. They love the birdfeeder. 😀 We see them less often this year though because of the loud Blue Jays coming by a lot. Nice Pics Donna❗️
Thank you, Al! Blue Jays are most loud and rambunctious, they do scare the little ones away!
My Congratulations on your 208th “lifer” . Excellent shots, Donna. 🙂
Thank you, HJ! I’m glad I’ve finally been able to say I have this bird! 🙂
We see only see the black-capped here. Sweet birds, sweet shots!
Thank you, Belinda! And sweet song! 🙂
Looks like it is about to hammer at something in the second photo. Amazing how they wind up to peck at something. They have fooled me into thinking I hear a woodpecker lightly tapping. I always wondered how to differentiate between the Black-capped and the Carolina, so thank you for the mention of the wing bars.
Good eye, Jane, yes, it was working hard at feeding and hammering. I thought that shot was adorable with it’s feathers flared! 🙂
Yeah, for seeing this cutie! The images are lovely.
Thank you, Deborah!
One of my favorite birds! Nice captures, Donna. Our BCCs head deeper into the forests to breed, so I’m anxiously awaiting their return any day now.
Thank you, Eliza! What a sweet treat to hear their first calls to let you know, “Hey, we’re back!”
Excellent! The list grows! Cute little thing…
One by one…..and getting harder and harder, lol. 😉 But I love the challenge!!
So sweet!! 💛
Thank you, Lisa!!
What a happy addition to your lifer list! They are just the cheeriest little things. I’m hoping we had some using the nest box like last year. Waiting for the nuthatches to move down in altitude soon now that it’s been cooling down.
Thank you, Gunta! Their calls can’t help but make you smile. Fingers crossed for next year! Yep, the air is getting cool and crisp. Have your trees started to turn color?
Lovely birds
Thank you!
These images are absolutely beautiful! 💙
Thank you very much!
