Lighthouses: Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island
I’ve visited two of the five Outer Banks lighthouses.
The first is the most famous of the five, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

Great pics Donna. I love the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, it has an interesting look about it. Were you able to go inside it?
Thank you, Sue. No, they were closed due to the virus. 😦
I love both of these lighthouses! Did you know that a WWII bomb was detonated near the Cape Hatteras lighthouse last Friday 10/23/2020?
No, I did not know! We actually left OBX mid-last week. I bet we would have heard it if we were still there.
Love, love the lighthouses. Thank you for this new serie, Donna.
Thank you, Isabel, I love lighthouses too. 😊
They’re both lovely lighthouses!
Thank you, Deborah!
Excellent shots, Donna!
Thank you, Jyothi!
Excellent series, Donna! Lovely view of the lighthouses!
Thank you, Indira, they are quite majestic!
Very nice series of images Donna! Always fun to see and photograph lighthouses!
Thank you, Reed!
They are handsome lighthouses! I love the pure blue sky in the latter one.
Thank you, I wish I had gotten the Cape Hatteras lighthouse with the same blue skies. 🙂
These are so beautiful and interesting buildings! Great shots, Donna. 🙂
Thank you, HJ! 😊
Lighthouses are always interesting places to explore Donna, they have that nostalgic old world charm, and have lots of stories of a tough life and sea rescues etc
I enjoy reading about lighthouses and their lightkeepers. 🙂
The Cape Hatteras building is unusual. I like the ornamental stone work and the twist.
It is quite majestic in person!
I really enjoyed the lighthouse photos here, Donna. And I’m SO GLAD you included the Fresnel lens at the Bodie Island Lighthouse. Your photo captured its magical light so well. I looked that one up and found that it’s of the “first order,” which makes it the biggest Fresnel lens there is. I find the Fresnel Lenses so very exciting, so thank you.
Thank you, Jet, on the info about the Fresnel lens, I don’t know much about them, but do find them fascinating too! I also enjoy the stories of the lighthouses and the keepers. 🙂
These take me down memory lane to times I have spent in the Outer Banks … thank you!
You’re welcome, Denise!
Excellent shots. I’m a native and I’ve never been to see them. *facepalm*
Thank you, Vic! A road trip to the coast sounds like a good plan! 🙂
OH…I so wish…
