Red-bellied Woodpecker in Hot Pursuit
.
I shared a post of a male Pileated Woodpecker in hot pursuit of a female a few weeks ago.
The Red-bellied Woodpeckers are playing the same games!

Everywhere the female flew and landed, her suitor was quick to follow.

“Hey, where did she go?”

The female allowed the male to catch her, and he was quick to impress by flaring his crest feathers.

Was she impressed? 😉

Love is in the air with birds in Florida!

Who’s hunting whom? Or is it hide and seek?
She was having a good time teasing the male! 😉
Very nice Donna! Enjoyed seeing your Woodpecker images! We hear them here in the woods next to us, but hardly ever see them!
Thank you, Reed! They really make some loud sounds pounding a tree with their beak. 🙂
Hie showing off for sure 😀 Awesome captures, Donna!
He sure is, hehe! Thank you, Indira!
Great pictures! Especially the pair. We have one that comes to our suet feeder. I guess I haven’t tried to determine if it was male or female, but now I will. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Susan! Just like the Pileated Woodpecker, look for the red crest for the male, which the females lack. 🙂
I think I have decided ours is a male.
I’m not sure she was that impressed, but sometimes it takes a little time…
She was checking him out! 😍
I hope she was impressed. Otherwise, poor guy, worked so hard to win her over.
She really gave him a tease, she took off again, and he was quick to follow! I bet they had a little tryst later…. 😍
Love is in the air! I sure hope she likes him and soon there will be little ones flitting about for you to find and photograph.
Me too! This area they were playing is full of Red-bellies, they love the palm trees for nests and eating all palm berries. I’d love to see babies!!
I hope you do!! 😀
That reminds me that I could do with a haircut myself soon.
I am seriously about ready to cut my own, my last cut was July. 🥴 Egads, my head may be starting to look like your hairy cattle, Tom.
Luckily Mrs T is handy with the clippers and cuts mine for me….at a very reasonable price.
She does look a little starry-eyed! 😉
I think so too 🤩
Wonderful pictures. Donna. 🙂
Thank you, HJ! 😊
Oh how cute. The birdie dating dance.
🥰
There is clearly romance in the air 🙂
Lots of it around here right now! 😊
Wonderful shots, Donna!. They’re getting started early 😊
Yea they are…. 😉 They make me giggle with delight watching them. 😊
Beautiful captures Donna of courting, such an important aspect of finding the right mate.
Thank you, Ashley! It is a delight to see birds courting, it makes me smile.
I don’t know if she’s impressed…but I sure am.
Thank you, Jet!
Love the story line, and the shot of the male looking around the side of the piling. ♡
She kept moving around the pilings out of sight from him, lol. It was cute to watch. 😊
