Tricolored Heron Gallery

.

Back home in Maryland, I get to see five of the six North American heron species.  The one missing is the Tricolored Heron.  So this past couple months, I always spent more time photographing the Tricolored Heron over the other herons to add to my collection.

So again, here I am sharing more of my favorites from the past several weeks of this beautiful heron.

    • Thank you, Ted! I did spend more time with them when I could since I don’t get to see but maybe one a summer up on the Chesapeake IF we’re lucky. Got lots more photos, so I’m a happy camper when going home! 🙂

    • Thank you, Irene! I did get a little excited when I had close-up opportunities. The rest of the birds around were forgotten, lol. Oh, unless it was a spoonbill or woodstork! 😅 😂 😂 Oh a photographer’s woes at times!! hehe 🤣🤣🤣 Boy oh boy, I am going to miss all the birds down here in Florida….

  1. Beautiful captures of a beautiful bird! Your collection must be huge by now, Donna! Thank you. 🙂

  2. Wow Donna, these are all beautiful. I think my favorite, composition wise, is the first one, but each one is different. Ironically for me, the best view I have ever had of a tri-colored heron was at Terrapin Park on Kent Island, when one, probably just passing through, was perched on a piling less than 50 feet from the shore where I was standing. I kept telling passersby about it, but most weren’t interested. I guess not everyone is a birder or photographer.

    • Thank you, Susan! Cool sighting for you!! I’ve seen a rare Tricolored around the Bay over the years too, wish they were regulars on the Bay. That would be an added treat!!

  3. Beautiful pictures of the Tricolored Heron, Donna! It looks like you have a nice collection of photos of it in different settings and positions to take home with you.

  4. Great nature photography. We live in a bird sanctuary where we have a lot of grey herons and egrets as well but we don’t have these blueish herons.
    Thanks for sharing

  5. Beautiful photos, Donna. This is one of several herons I have never seen and I imagine I will take thousands of photos of this species and its cousins if I ever get to visit Florida.
    Best wishes,
    Tanja
