As is the norm now, this male Osprey is already busy at sunrise at Eastern Neck NWR.

Ospreys are excellent anglers. Per AllAboutBirds.org, over several studies, Ospreys caught fish on at least 1 in every 4 dives, with success rates sometimes as high as 70 percent! The average time they spent hunting before making a catch was about 12 minutes—something to think about next time you throw your line in the water. 😂
But the job is not done just yet. Now the Osprey has the added feat of getting that fish home before a possible nearby watching Eagle decides it wants it. 😕 Next post….
I hope his competitors is not steal his breakfast! Great series, Donna! As soon as I saw the first line, I felt sure he would be successful. I really enjoyed the stats on their success rates.
Amazing Osprey fishing series!
Thank you, Hien!
All those feathers and wings and yet with those sharp talens he gets that slippery fish. Great series of pictures.
They also have spikes under those talons to get that extra grip so necessary! Thank you, Sandy!
Fabulous captures of a hungry osprey, Donna! Let’s hope any eagles will catch their own!

Fantastic! I love the splash. 😊
Thank you, Pepper! Boy, they hit the water hard!
Success! I like how they fold their wings in before entry to keep from damaging them.
Always great to see them come up with a fish! I did miss this legs out with those talons extended darn it, that is the ultimate shot! 😉
