Green Heron
Do you have a significant other who enjoys that you love photographing birds, AND is quite obliging if it’s safe when you blurt out, “stop the car!” ??
I do and here is one of those instances.Β π
I saw a perched bird….wasn’t sure what it was….but it didn’t matter….and the words flew out of my mouth.
The easy pull-over and my sprint back to the brush opening to the marsh provided this gorgeous photo-op of a Green Heron.
Nice grab! I like that old rusty metal he is sitting on too. You have a very nice significant other. It’s probably a bit short notice, but you should check out the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife festival later this month. http://www.spacecoastbirdingandwildlifefestival.org/
Thanks, I was very happy with the metal perch addition! I’m not able to attend the Space Coast festival this year, but I know of it and have it on my travel list, soon as we retire! π Enjoy this year’s event, it has to be nothing less than spectacular! I’ll be watching for your photos.
Fantastic photos, Donna; and excellent support system too. Great post. π
Thanks, Jet, this was an exciting photo-up for me! And yep, hubby’s a keeper too! π
Great captures! π
Thanks HJ! π
Wow! what striking contrasting colours, well shot Donna!
Thanks! The rusty metal perch was an added bonus I thought too. π
Excellent photos of a hard to sneak up on species of bird!
Thanks Jerry, I felt really really lucky with this one! π
Wow, Donna, what a stunner! Thanks to you and your hubby for this one!! πππππ What penetrating eyes! I’m so knocked over by nature every day, but your stuff really takes my breath away.
Thank you so much, Laura! I sometimes wonder if one of these days a set of penetrating eyes is going to be moving fast-forward right at me in my lens to attack me, I think I’d fall flat on my tush! lol
LOL!
Great shot! And I’m happy to report that I have a significant other like that too! π
Wonderful! Boy, I do have some funny shots of my husband ‘patiently’ waiting on a walk while I stop to take some photos, got one of him laying on a picnic table, lol. He just chills most times. Or points out a bird! π
These are one of my favorite birds! What fun for you getting these photos. My son has had a few of those “stop stop stop” calls when we go exploring. Thanks for posting – hugs
‘
Thanks Beth, love hearing you do it to your son too! I’ve got my husband trained so well in stopping, he’ll even pull over if he sees a bird and tell me look look, get the shot, lol. π
Great shot!!
Thank you!!
Amazing shots, so enjoyable. I really appreciated the info you included, things I didn’t know.
Thanks so much, I need to do it more often! Just a little tidbit is nice I thought. And I learn too! π
Clever bird!
Thanks Cornel!
He’s really handsome and such a clever little chap, Donna. I had one in my backyard the other day, and took a photo which I was going to post for My Sunday Photo this week. π
Thanks Sylvia, looking forward to your Florida chap tomorrow! π
Thanks, Donna. π
That is quite a significant tool that the heron is using. Good work by the driver.
I wondered what he might be shoveling out of the marsh…. π
A good question.
What an amazing capture! Lucky!
Thank you! Don’t you love it when it happens by chance and you’re at the right place right time??!! π
no significant other but I have a friend that I travel with and we both do this often. Just remember to pull over , out of the way. When you said he uses tools, I thought you were talking about the shovel he seems to be perched on.Great capture!
I loved the shovel and thought about how he was pretty smart using that tool, lol. π Thanks Jane, hope all is well with you!
For photos like these I would pull over and stop any time, night or day!
π I know you have such lovely Montana views, that I’d have to stop every mile to take another photo! Some day!
Great captures dear Donna, I loved them. Thank you, have a nice day, love, nia
Thank you Nia π

Beautiful shots. They are fascinating birds to watch.
Thank you, I think they are too. I’m not so lucky most times on capturing their photo, they are so flighty. π
I can do you one better. I have a SO who loves birding. He spots birds I don’t usually see except for him pointing them out. Then I get to catch them with my lens. It makes it such great fun to share, doesn’t it? Very nice shot of a very shy bird.
Yep, that’s even better! I’ve noticed my SO has started seeing a bird before me which means he’s ‘looking’. I’ll make him a birder yet! π
He’s a beauty, and you’ve caught wonderful images of him. You are the one who identified this bird for me in previous posts – I see these in our marina often.
I see them a lot around marinas also, they must like boats like us. π
He’s very smart looking! And these great photos were certainly worth stopping for π
He is rather smart looking! π
I haven’t lived “stopped the car” because I’m usually driving. My problem is scanning the telephone poles and wires while driving. Great shots.
I like to go off alone so I know about the scanning while driving, lol. Not an easy task! π
