Series: Take a Moment and Enjoy a Sunset

Today’s late afternoon clouds looked promising for a possible dramatic sunset.  I decided to go to Blackwater NWR; I had just enough time to get to there and set up beforehand.

Mother Nature did not disappoint; it was spectacular, reflecting on Blackwater River.

If you missed your sunset today, I hope you enjoy ours from Eastern Shore Maryland.  It was quite uplifting!

These are taken from the same location, just different directions around the sunset itself.

What a sunset!  As the sky darkened, I packed up my gear and drove to the wildlife drive exit.

Suddenly the sky started to lighten back up.  I turned left on Rt. 335 and drove to the Blackwater River bridge just down the road.

Sure enough, an encore occurred…..

  1. Utterly beautiful, Donna! You gotta watch for that bit of extra color after the sun actually sets! Oh… and the reflections are absolutely spectacular!

    • It was so much more glorious in person, Mike, and in so many stages. I was very glad I went to see the reflections, they wouldn’t haven’t been as wonderful on my creek. 🙂

  2. Amazing works of art Donna, captured so beautifully. Our Creator is such a Master of beauty and wonder. You have captured the reflections and sunset colors magnificently.

    • I did take a couple photos every so often, but I mostly just stood there and watched it go in stages, while listening to the Tundra Swans calling out in the distance. It was heavenly, Ashley, I was so glad I went. 🙂

    • I think this might have been the best sunset I’ve witnessed at Blackwater in all the years I’ve gone there. It was getting too late quick for Oakley St as we talked, I think Blackwater was my right choice. 🙂

    • Thank you, David, there’s obviously quite a few locations to park for sunsets at the refuge but where I shot has the broadest part of water with the islands to get both the big reflections and some composition to work with. I always say I’m going to another location to try but always go to this location.

  3. What a gorgeous sunset! Beautiful photos Donna. I especially love the last one, lovely colours and a perfect reflection.

  4. Thank you for sharing your sunset with me! The sky, the reflective water, the colors, the quote – what a gift God gave you! Amazing, just amazing. hugs Donna
