Red-winged Blackbird, A Balancing Act
Red-winged Blackbirds are year-round residents of the Chesapeake Bay region.
It is always a treat to see and hear them around our marshes and wetlands.

Wonderful photo Donna, I like the way the bird is straddling the thin branches. An attractive bird too. π
Thank you, John! I see these birds do that straddle all the time, I keep waiting for one to go into a split! π
Beautiful photo, Donna. Lucky you to have Red-Wingeds all year around. When I first hear them singing in the spring, only then does the season seems official.
Thank you, Lisa, I know what you mean about their spring singing, they are so excited is mating time! They make me feel the season has official begun too with their song. π
Love this! π
Thank you, Irene! π
Handsome RWB! They are very photogenic and cool. Great shot, Donna. π
Thank you, HJ! π

Terrific timing, Donna! Handsome bird!
Thank you, Indira!
Excellent photo! We see them during spring migration but Iβve yet to see one in fall as they return south.
Thank you, Belinda! Hmmmm….I wonder why? Not fair! π
Super capture, Donna! I love these birds and your image tells a good story about them.
Thank you, Jane!
Nice shot, Donna! π They often scold me when i am photographing in “their” territory. π
Thank you, Tom! I’ve been scolded many a time too! π
Nice Donna! They are a welcome site & sounds at many of the places we photograph!
Thank you, Reed! A lovely song bird indeed!
Awesome capture! π
Thank you! π
Lovely photo, Donna. RWBBs are only summer visitors here. They are my harbinger of spring and I rejoice when I hear the first one arrive in March. π
Thank you, Eliza! Ours tend to be a bit quieter through the fall and winter, so they are still a welcoming sight and sound for us in the Spring also. My harbinger too! π
Just hanging on! You caught the perfect pose. No surprise there. π
Thank you, Gunta, they are great straddlers! π
I find them irresistible, Donna. Beautiful portrait!
Thank you, Tanja!
