Reflecting Birds on a Foggy Morning
Arriving at the 10,000 Islands NWR early one morning this past March, the rising sun was just beginning to burn off a light fog.
I hurried to my favorite location to see what I might find in the shallow pools between the mangroves.
I couldn’t believe the spectacular sight….
Reflecting Birds on a Foggy Morning
In just a few minutes, the fog disappeared.Β The bright sun aroused the birds; and just as quickly, they left, off to find their breakfast and begin their day.
Awesome photo op! Donna, thanks for sharing your marvelous camera captures. I can feel your excitement.
Thank you very much! I was so glad I got up early and was there just in time. π
Donna, these birds and fog gave you such a breathtaking view to capture!!
Thank you, Dee, I’ll never forget this awesome morning with so many birds at once! π
I can understand totally. I also loved them so much that immediately I showed to my daughter and husband and they both were also amazed!
Awwwww….so sweet, your comment made me smile so wide! π
An outstanding adventure ππ. Coming upon large flocks and fog doesnβt happen very often. When it does you just donβt know where to point first LOL. Very nice.
Thank you, Ted! You know exactly what my brain was doing, trying to take in the big picture and figure point where? Where?? π This was my last visit to this refuge before we left Florida. It took me three months to score fog and lots of birds, so no it does not happen often!
Great captures Donna. I especially like the pano (or pano-like cropped?) shot. The soft, diffuse lighting conveys a sense of serenity and an ethereal-like quality. It should remind all of us nature photographers that photography is always about the light!
Thank you, Steve! That’s a pano-crop. There was nothing above and below and just took away from the birds. π Yes, it is always about the lighting!
Beautiful shots, Donna. How lucky you were to capture that magic moment!
Thank you, Susan! It was well worth the early rise! π
The bit of fog makes for a wonderful atmosphere in this series! Beautiful!
Thank you, Belinda, it was well worth getting up extra early, then finding the fog as a bonus. I had my fingers crossed all the way to my fave spot. π
A beautiful sighting!
Thank you very much, it so was!
OMG. Those are stunning! They look like paintings (think Rembrandt, not Monet) or postcards. I’m tellin’ ya…NatGeo…BBC… Richard Attenborough would love your work.
Thank you much, Vic! You make me blush with a silly smile. hee hee π
I’m smilin’ with ya’, sweetie. ;D
Beautiful images Donna!
Thank you, Reed!
You captured the scenes right on time! Great job, my friend. Artistic composition at best. π π
Thank you, HJ! So glad I didn’t hit the snooze button, it was well worth the early rise! π
These photos are absolutely beautiful…… Not a ripple in the water. *Thank you, Susan*

Thank you, Susan!
Fabulous timing, Donna! Love it when that happens. These are gorgeous reflection shots and what absolute fun to experience.
Thank you, Ellen! I was so glad I didn’t hit the snooze button. It was awesome and exciting, I know I was trying to be calm to be steady for the shots. Wasn’t easy! lol
A delight.
Thank you Tom!
How beautiful and serene are those captures Donna, they are special moments when the water is so still. I had a similar one yesterday with a small flock of Royal Spoonbills.
Thank you, Ashley! It was so quiet too, the birds were all still hunkered in, just waiting for the clearing. It was quite special. Looking forward to your similar moment with your Royal Spoonbills!
Super-great shots. I love reflection photos.
Thank you, Kathy!
Beautiful and dreamy!
Thank you, Eliza!
Absolutely magic, how wonderful!
Thank you, Liz!
Double delight with the reflections, Donna!
Love that comment, Indira, perfect and thank you!!
Beautiful! Hard to choose, but I think 7901 was the favorite followed closely by 7900. (Tried to comment at the individual shot, but it didn’t seem to take?)
Thank you, Gunta! It was a beautiful scene, and the birds were most cooperative. I just had to shoot and see what compositions I ended up with, was so worried someone was going to come up on me and scare all the birds away. π
Just beautiful Donna! The reflections are so crisp and the fog really gives these shots an otherworldly feel. Love these!
Thank you, Carol! I’m glad I didn’t hit the snooze button that morning! π
Gorgeous photos! Beautiful reflections, Donna! ~ Sheila
Thank you, Sheila!
Beautiful shots Donna … very striking!
Thank you, Denise!
