Five On The Wire – #1
.
As another occasional post, I’m beginning this new five bird species series with the theme of birds perching on those not-so-pretty communication wires.
With 360° views for hunting and resting, we can’t blame the birds for liking them. With a creative composition and catching the light in their eye, birds and wires can prove to be very pretty!
So on with a set of five bird beauties enjoying a swingin’ moment!
.
Loggerhead Shrike
.
American Kestrel (male)
.
Eurasian Collared-Dove
.
White Ibis
.
Red-shouldered Hawk (juvenile)
.
“So many birds sitting around, on a dead wire, a bare branch, a cold ground, a drifting seashore; never realizing the glory in their wings and where it can take them, nor the envy as we look on them.” — Anthony Liccione

Superb photos of very pretty birds.
Thank you, Hien!
Great series of images Donna! Plus I like the blog title!
Thank you, Reed! Since I typed it, I still can’t get the tune out of my head, lol.
We often see collared doves on the wires in our garden.
They are a nice addition to the neighborhood and do have pretty eyes. 🙂
Beautiful captures Donna against the blue sky where we can enjoy the full colour of the birds.
Thank you, Ashley! If I go birding, most of the time it’s early morning when the sky and birds are so rich in color and the day’s heat/humidity hasn’t started building. For some reason, your equipment starts feeling heavier when you start sweating, lol. 😉
Excellent 5! I wish just once a white Ibis would land on a wire here and I’d see it of course. 😁
Thank you, Deborah! Both last winter and this past month, I’ve seen White Ibis sitting on wires. I’ve never seen them do this anywhere else before, lol. They sure do look cool up there! 😉
They do! 😀😎
Wow, Donna. That is an impressive collection! You obviously have your eyes peeled to the sky as well as the ground. Good for you! Thanks as always, for sharing.
Thank you, Susan! Almost all the ‘bird on wire’ photos I’ve taken recently and will be sharing are from in the small town of Everglades City. In the mornings if I’m riding around in my golf cart, they seem to be everywhere! 🙂
What a beautiful bunch! I love all of them! Good job, Donna. 🙂
Thank you, HJ! 😊
Now I’ll be humming Leonard Cohen’s “Like a bird, ON a wire…” for the rest of the night! 😉
Nice takes, Donna. I like the pose of the white ibis … it seems to be looking right at you in amusement. 😉
Thank you, Eliza! Hopefully you’re still not on the loop, lol. I love the White Ibis’ adorable smile too, a little on the mischievous side! 😉
What beautiful photos! I love them all, but I think the photo with the dove and the green palm trees (?) in the back has very cool colors!
Thank you, Lisa! I got a couple angles with this dove, and liked the palm tree effect in the background too! Much more interesting than blue sky, lol.
I agree! The blue sky is pretty, but sometimes not that exciting of a background. Well done!
You are a great birder, Donna!! Lovely pictures!
Thank you, Indira, I do enjoy birding very much! And now since retirement I have more time and patience. 🙂
There are the one’s you were telling me about.
Nice collection of birds and photos Donna
Yes, sir! Thank you, Eddie!!
A very nice collection of birds on the wire. The Eurasian Collared-Dove is so pretty and reminds me of my mourning doves. The White Ibis sure knows how to strike a winning pose. 🙂
Thank you, Barbara! When I’m running around the little town here in my golf cart, I see so many birds on the wires just begging for a shot, lol. I do like that White Ibis and it’s cute grin too. 🙂
I so enjoyed these avian perchers, Donna. Every single photo captures each individual’s unique markings and beauty. My favorite is the ibis, because we don’t often see them on wires. Great quote too.
Thank you, Jet! Except for once last winter, and now twice this past month, I’ve seen a White Ibis on a wire, it looks so cool up there, especially for its size and that mischievous smile. 🙂
Lovely shots! How amazing to see an Ibis on a wire😊.
Thank you, Belinda! I love that Ibis on the wire too, s/he looks so big to be doing it, lol. 😊
They are all very beautiful! It’s the birds that make the photos pretty.
Thank you! They’re swinging beauties!
Great theme … love this post of different species, tied together by a wire!
Thanks Denise! Even birds like to have a swingin’ moment! 🙂
