Five On The Wire – #2

.

Continuing with my series of five bird species perched on those not-so-pretty communication wires, that have those awesome 360Β° views they love.

    • Thank you, Eliza! I do too. I’ve had only a handful of photos of the kestrel prior to winter 2019-20. Here in Florida where we’ve stayed last and this winter now, I can go out daily and almost surely see at least one. And most always on a wire. 🀨 But I still take photos, I am amazed with their gorgeous coloring, I can’t help myself.

  1. Awesome post, Donna. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» It would be cool to see them all perched side by side on the same wire. Like buddies 🀣 Very nice variety of birds in this set! 🐧🐦🐀

  2. Awesome close ups of these wonderful and amazing birds, Donna! I loved the highlight in their eyes, and I tried to ID them all as I went before reading your ID. I knew all for sure, but the hawk…I got it right! WOOT! Since I don’t see that one often. The Red-tail is the most common out here in the west.

    • Thank you, Barbara! Is that not amazing with a Cormorant on a wire?!! I have never seen one do this in my ten years birding until here in southwest Florida last winter. They are on the lines everywhere. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Brian! In ten years birding, I had never seen a Cormorant on a wire either (and we have a lot of them there too), until I came to southwest Florida last winter. They are every where on one. I’m guessing it’s because there are so darn many here and there’s only so many high perches for all the birds that like high perches. And Cormorants won’t fight/squabble for a squatting place. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! There are several around the little town we are camping in, most always on a wire, but I don’t care, I will always take another photo. πŸ™‚ I love them too, they are so darn colorful AND adorable!

  3. Love the photos, especially the kestral, which is more scarce around here. I also like the whole 5 on the wire idea. I don’t have heaps of luck with birds in flight, but on the wire, I have a better chance!
    Cheers,
    Julie

    • Thank you, Julie! I’ve had fun with this ‘series’, especially cool-looking wire compositions, now I’ll stop for birds more often on wires. They do make for great practice if they oblige! πŸ™‚
